TIN PAN ALLEY
Tin Pan Alley is a sculpture commemorating the history of a stretch of West 28th Street in Manhattan which once formed the hub of a thriving sheet music industry in New York. It is installed in the rooftop courtyard at Planthouse Gallery. Consisting of silkscreen prints collaged over a sheet metal base, its structure and imagery evoke the vibrant signage of nearby businesses as well as the surviving architecture from the area’s heyday. Both the substructure and the silkscreen collage elements were produced by David Barthold at Gowanus Studio Space in Brooklyn.
